Lazy Daisy Layette.....


Materials:

  • Baby Fingering Weight Yarn 6 oz Green (A), 1 oz White (B), 1 oz Yellow (C)
  • 3 Daisy Shape Buttons 7/8" Diameter
  • 8 Snap Sets 3/8" Diameter
  • 1 1/4 yds white satin ribbon 1/8" wide
  • 1 yd white satin ribbon 1/4" wide
  • Sewing Thread and Needle
  • Size E or 3.5 mm crochet hook
  • Size F or 3.75 mm crochet hook


Sizes: Newborn 3-6 Months 9-12 Months
17" Chest 18" Chest 20" Chest

Sweater:
Right Front:
With larger hook and A, ch 39 (44, 49)
Row 1: (right side) Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch; ch 1, turn: 38 (43, 48) sc.
Row 2: Sc in each sc; ch 1, turn.
Rep Row 2 until piece measures 4 1/2" (5 1/2", 6") ending by working a wrong side row.

Right Armhole and Neck:
Row 1: Draw up a lp in each of next 2 sc, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook: sc dec made for neck
edge; sc in each sc across to last sc; ch 1, turn leaving last sc unworked for armhole edge: 36 (21, 46) sc.
Row 2: Sc in each sc across; sc dec in last 2 sc; ch 1, turn .
Rep rows 1 and 2 until 12 (14, 15) sc rem.

For larger sizes only:
Work 1 more row even in sc. Finish off.

Left Front: Work same as right front until piece measures 4 1/2" (5 1/2", 6").

Shape Armhole and Neck:
Row 1: Sl st in first sc for armhole edge, ch 1, sc in each sc to end; sc dec in last 2 sc for neck edge; ch 1,
turn.
Row 2: Sc dec in first 2 sc, sc in each sc to end; ch 1, turn.
Row 3: Sc in each sc to end, sc dec in last 2 sc; ch 1, turn.
Rep rows 2 and 3 until 12 (14, 15) sc rem.
For 2 larger sizes only work 1 more row even in sc. Finish off.

Back:
With larger hook and A, ch 46 (51, 56)
wrong side row.

Shape Armholes:
Sl st in first sc, ch 1, sc in each sc across, leaving last sc unworked; ch 1, turn: 43 (48, 53) sc. Work even in
sc until back is same length as fronts to shoulder. Do not ch at end of last row. Finish off.

Sleeves: (make 2)
Using larger hook and A, ch 28 (30, 32)
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each rem ch; ch 1, turn: 27 (29, 31) sc.
Row 2: Sc in each sc; ch 1, turn.
Row 3: Rep Row 2.
Row 4: 2 sc in first sc (sc inc made), sc in each sc, 2 sc in last sc; ch 1, turn.
Row 5 thru 7: Rep row 2.
Row 8: Rep row 4.
Rep rows 5 thru 8 until there are 41 (45, 53) sc.
Work even in sc until sleeve measures 5 (7, 8) inches long. On last row do not ch 1. Finish off.

Finishing:
Body Edging: Using A, sew side and shoulder seams. With right side facing and smaller hook, join a at side
seam and work 2 rnd sc evenly around entire edge of garment, working 3 sc in each corner; join in first sc
with sl st. Finish off. Join B in joining of previous rnd; *ch 3, skip 1 sc, sl st in next sc; rep from * around,
adjusting at corners as needed; join in first ch of beg ch-3. Finish off.

Sleeve Edging: With right side facing and smaller hook, join A at lower edge and work 27 (29, 31) sc in
unused lps of beg ch; ch 1, turn. Work one more row sc with A. Finish off. Turn to right side; then join B in
first sc; ch 1, sl st in first sc, *ch 3, skip 1 sc, sl st in next sc; rep from * across. Finish off. Using A, sew
sleeve seams and set in sleeves. Weave in all ends. Overlap right front over left fron for girls and left front
over right front for boys. Sew 3 snap sets to fronts near side seam and sew 3 daisy buttons over snaps.
Sew one snap set at top neck and one set at top inner corner of overlap.

Bonnet:
Back: Square: (Make 4 using smaller (larger, larger) hook)
Using C, ch 4; join with sl st to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, 8 sc in ring; join with sl st to first sc. Finish off.
Rnd 2: Join B in any sc; (ch 4, hdc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in next 2 ch, sl st in next sc) 8 times, work last sl st in same sc as joining: 8 petals. Finish off.
Rnd 3: Join A in tip of any petal, ch 1, sc in same place; *ch 3, sc in tip of next petal, ch 7 **, sc in tip of next petal; rep from * around, end at **; join in first sc.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in first sc; *3 sc in ch-3 sp, sc in next sc, (3 sc, ch 3, 3 sc) in next ch-7 sp **; sc in next sc;
rep from * around, end at **; join in first sc. Finish off.

Brim/Casing:
With right side facing and larger hook, join A in back lp of lower right hand corner of large square and
working in back lps only, work 51 (65, 71) sc evenly around 3 sides of square; ch 1, turn. Sc in each sc until
brim measures 2 1/2" (3 1/2", 4") ending by working a right side row. At end of last row; ch 3, turn bonnet
upside down.
For ribbon casing; work dc into side of sc rows to back section, dc in back lp only of each sc
across back, dc into side of sc rows to front edge. Finish off.

Edging: With right side facing and smaller hook, join B at beg of casing row and work as follows: *ch 3, skip 1 st, sl st in next st: rep from * around entire bonnet, adjusting at corners as needed; join in first ch of beg ch-3. Finish off. Weave 1/4" ribbon through dc row of casing.

Back Edging: With right side facing and smaller hook, join B in front lp at lower corner of back and work
edging pattern in each front lp around square back. Finish off.

Bootie (make 2):
Sole Starting at heel, with larger hook and A, ch 10 (12, 14).
Row 1: (right side): Sc in second ch from hook and each rem ch: 9 (11, 13) sc; ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in each sc; ch 1, turn.
Row 3 through 18 (20, 22): Rep row 2.
Row 19 (21, 23): Sc in first sc; draw up a lp in each of next 2 sc; yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook;
decrease made; sc to last 3 sts, draw up a lp in each of next 2 sts, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook; sc
in last st: 7 (9, 11) sc. Finish off. Mark this row for toe end.

Top: Ch 10 (12, 14)
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each rem ch; 9 (11, 13) sc; ch 1, turn. Mark this row for instep.
Row 2 through 8 (9, 10): Work same as sole.
Last Row: Work row 19 (21, 23) of sole: 7 (9, 11) sc. Finish off. Mark this row for toe end.

Sides:
Rnd 1: (right side) Working in unused lps of beg ch of sole, with larger hook, join A in center ch at heel end;
ch 1, sc in joining and in each rem ch; sc in end of each row along side to row marked as toe; place a
contrast piece of yarn between last and next st to indicate start of toe; sc in each sc across toe; place
another marker to indicate end of toe; sc in end of each row along opposite side to beg ch, sc in rem un
worked lps of ch, join with sl st in beg sc; do not turn.
Note: Move toe markers up as you work.
Rnds 2 through 6 (6, 8): Ch 1, sc in each sc around, join; do not turn.
On the next rnd, top will be joined to sides and toe of sole.
Rnd 7 (7, 9): Ch 1; sc in each sc to 8 (9, 10) sts before first toe marker; place one row edge of top in front
of side and join with sc, working through both pieces, matching rows and sts, to first toe marker; sc through
both pieces across toe, then sc through both pieces across rem row edges of top and sides; then complete
rnd working sc in rem sc sts of side, join.
Rnd 8 (8, 10): Ch 3, (counts as a dc), dc in each sc to instep (free) edge of top; leaving joined edges of top
unworked, dc in unused lps of beg ch across instep edge and in rem unjoined sc of side; join in 3rd ch of
beg ch-3.
Rnd 9 (9, 11): Ch 1, sc in each dc around, join.
Work 5 (7, 9) more rnds in sc; at end of last rnd. Finish off; weave in all ends.

Edging:
Rnd 1: With right side facing and smaller hook, join white in sc at center back joining; *ch 3, skip 1
sc, sl st in next sc: rep from * around, join in beg sc. Finish off; weave in ends.

Finishing: Following instructions for Rnds 1 and 2 of hat square, make 2 daisies and sew to in step of each
bootie. Cut two 20" long pieces of 1/8" ribbon and weave through dc rows at ankle. Tie ends in bow.
