TO MAKE UPSole
Step 1:
with RS facing towards you and tapestry needle, use tail end and mattress st the angled, open side of the sole base up to the beginning of the garter st ridge (leave all garter ridge loops free for next step). Weave back through to the bottom of the sole base on the WS and then complete in mattress st the long base section matching the garter loops. Weave in end on WS neatly. Pull sts securely to make a firm seam.

BACK SEAM AND SOLE EDGING
Step 2:
using 3.75 crochet hook and RS facing, begin at the top edge and last cast off st. Insert hook through the last cast off ‘chain’ and make 2ch. Working on one back edge only, make 2dc in between each garter edge st where the ‘garter knot’ occurs and end with 1dc in between the garter ridges. Turn and work 1dc joining the two garter ridges matching the inside loops of the garter stitches all the way round the base of the sole.
Step 3: reversing instructions rep Row 1 up the second side of the back seam (you are not joining the back seam yet) make sure you begin in the very first ‘garter loop’ at this point.
Step 4: turn, taking the yarn from left to right around to the back of the hook and work again from the same position as for beg of Row 1. Sl st into the first of the two ch worked previously at the beg of the cast on edge. Continue in dc catching up the inside loops only of the previously worked dc’s (leaving a loop ridge either side) and work back down the seam finally joining up all the dc’s evenly. Fasten off and weave in ends to the inside of the boot at the sole

CUFF
Rnd/Row 1:
using 3.75mm hook and yarn D doubled begin at marked centre front st, make 2ch (this is the first dc), 1dc into each ch to the centre back, 1dc into ridge, 1dc into rest of ch returning to the centre st, 1dc into centre st, 2ch, (this is the first dc of next round), turn
Rnd/Row 2: missing first dc,1dc into each ch all round the boot top to the 2ch worked previously, 1dc into second of the two ch , 2ch, turn
Rep Rnd/Row 2 until ten (12,14) rows have been worked, tie off and weave in all remaining loose ends.
Tease and flatten the edges of the cuffs and steam lightly (with iron hovering over) covered with a damp cloth. Leave to dry still covered in a warm place. Do not steam the foot or sole of the boot.
Attach buttons as shown, sewing through the boot top and cuff to secure down. Place a backing button as required LK
