Here at the HELLO CUPCAKE CANDY LAB, we're always busy--having fun, experimenting and researching. Today we happened to come across the cover of a book some say contains the very first mention of the word "cupcake." It's Eliza Leslie's SEVENTY-FIVE RECEIPTS FOR PASTRIES, CAKES AND SWEETMEATS, published in 1828. We thought you might enjoy seeing the almost 200-year-old cover as much as we did!
And here's the recipe. Sounds like Eliza--and her 19th Century readers--liked a really spicy cupcake.
