Traditional South African sago pudding is warm and comforting; try this recipe

This warm winter pudding is a firm favourite, even in the hot Capetonian summer season.

  • 1 cup sago
  • 1 litre milk
  • pinch salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • butter
  • cinnamon | nutmeg

How to:
Boil sago, milk, salt and sugar. Add eggs, vanilla essence and more milk if necessary. Put into greased casserole dish, dot with butter, sprinkle cinnamon/nutmeg. Bake at 180 degrees for 20 -25 minutes.

Serve warm with cream, custard or ice-cream and enjoy!
