Crocheted Shell Stitch Baby Set....

6 Months to 1 Year

Materials Required: 
  • AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "DAWN" ORLON High Bulk Fingering Yarn or "DAWN" ORLON POMPADOUR High Bulk Fingering Yarn
  • 6 ozs. Buttercup and "STAR" RAYON CROCHET, Article 700
  • 2 balls White or colors of your choice. 
  • Plastic crochet hook size E. 
  • Steel crochet hook No. 3. 
  • 1 yd. ⅝ inch ribbon. 
  • 1 ¼ yds. ¼ inch ribbon.


SACQUE:
Orlon is worked with size E hook and "STAR" RAYON CROCHET is worked with No. 3 hook.

RIGHT FRONT: 
With yarn, chain (ch) 26, single crochet (s c) in 8th stitch (st) from hook, * ch 2, skip 2 sts of ch, double crochet (d c) in next st, ch 2, skip 2 sts of ch, s c in next st, repeat from * twice, ch 3, turn.
2nd Row. 2 d c in same space, * s c in next d c, 5 d c (shell) in next s c, repeat from * twice, s c in 3rd st of end loop, ch 5, turn.
3rd Row. * S c in center of next shell, ch 2, d c in next s c, ch 2, repeat from * twice, skip 2 d c, s c in next st, ch 2, treble crochet (tr c) over side of st just worked in, ch 1, turn.
4th Row. S c in same space, * shell in next s c, s c in next d c, repeat from * twice, shell in next s c, s c in 3rd st of end loop, ch 5, turn.

CAP:
With yarn ch 89, s c in 8th st from hook, ch 2, skip 2 sts of ch, d c in next st, * ch 2, skip 2 sts of ch, s c in next st, ch 2, skip 2 sts of ch, d c in next st, repeat from * across row, ch 1, turn.
2nd Row. Same as 2nd row of back of Sacque.
3rd Row. Same as 3rd row of back of Sacque. Repeat last 2 rows 10 times. Fold work in half and sew last row together for back of cap.

TURNBACK: 
With wrong side of work toward you and working along starting chain, attach White in 1st st, s c in same space, * skip 2 sts, 7 d c in next st, skip 2 sts, s c in next st, repeat from * across row, cut thread, turn.
Next Row. Attach yarn in same space, ch 5 and work same as 3rd row of back of Sacque.
Next Row. Same as 2nd row of back of Sacque.
Next Row. Same as 3rd row of back of Sacque, cut yarn.
Next Row. With White work a row of 7 d c shells, cut thread. With right side of work toward you, attach yarn in end s c of White row at beginning of turnback, working across neck edge, work 1 s c in each row to corresponding row at opposite side, ch 1 to turn all rows.
Next 4 Rows. 1 s c in each s c, cut yarn.

POMPON: 
Wind yarn over a ½ inch cardboard 70 times, tie one end and trim into shape. Work another pompon in same manner. Sew to sides of cap as illustrated. Sew ribbon ties in position.

BOOTIES:
With yarn, ch 14, 3 s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each of the next 11 sts of ch, 3 s c in end st, working on opposite side of ch, 1 s c in each of the next 11 sts, do not join this or following rounds. Place a marker at the beginning of each round.
2nd Round. 2 s c in each of the next 3 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 11 s c, 2 s c in each of the next 3 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 11 s c.
3rd Round. * 1 s c in next s c, 2 s c in next s c, repeat from * twice, 1 s c in each of the next 12 s c, 2 s c in next s c, * s c in next s c, 2 s c in next s c, repeat from * once, 1 s c in each of the next 11 s c.
4th and 5th Rounds. 1 s c in each s c on sides increasing 3 s c evenly spaced around each end in each round (52 s c in last round), sl st in next st to even round, turn.
6th Round. 1 s c in each st picking up entire st by inserting hook around entire st, join, ch 1, turn.
7th Round. 1 s c in each s c, do not join. Repeat the last round twice. Fold in half lengthwise and mark center for toe and opposite end for heel.
10th Round. 1 s c in each s c decreasing 3 sts evenly spaced around toe (to decrease: * insert hook in next st, pull loop through, repeat from * once, yarn over and pull through all loops at one time), join, cut yarn.
11th Row. Attach yarn in center st of heel, s c in same space, 1 s c in each s c to 3rd st from center of toe, working in back loop of sts only, work 1 s c in each of the next 7 sts, working through both loops of sts, 1 sl st in each of the next 2 sts, ch 1, turn.
Next Row. Skip the 2 sl sts and working in back loop of sts, 1 s c in each of the next 7 s c, working through both loops of sts, sl st in each of the next 2 s c on side of bootie, ch 1, turn. Repeat the last row 6 times.
Next Row. Skip the 2 sl sts and working in back loop of sts, 1 s c in each of the next 7 s c, sl st in same st on side of bootie, working through both loops work 1 s c in each s c to center back, join, do not turn.
Next Row. BEADING: Ch 3, skip 1 s c, short double crochet (s d c) in next s c (s d c: yarn over hook, insert in st, pull loop through, yarn over and work off all loops at one time), * ch 1, skip 1 st, s d c in next s c, repeat from * all around, ch 1, join in 2nd st of ch (18 meshes), ch 1, do not turn.
Next Round. Working in s c work 3 s c in 6 meshes (evenly spaced) and 2 s c in all other meshes (42 s c), join, turn.
Next Round. Ch 5, skip 2 s c, s c in next s c, * ch 2, skip 2 s c, d c in next s c, ch 2, skip 2 s c, s c in next s c, repeat from * all around, ch 2, join in 3rd st of ch, cut yarn, turn.
Next Round. Attach White in same space and work next 5 rounds same as last 5 rows of sleeves. Lace ribbon through beading. Work another bootie in same manner.

MITTENS:
With yarn, ch 30 (to measure about 4 ¾ inches), join, being careful not to twist ch, ch 1 and work 1 s c in each st. Without joining rounds and working in s c, work even until work measures 2 inches from beginning.
Next Round. 1 s c in each of the next 3 s c, decrease in next 2 sts (to decrease: * insert hook in next st, pull loop through, repeat from * once, yarn over and work off all loops at one time), repeat from beginning all around. Work 1 round even.
Next Round. Decrease 5 sts at intervals. Work 1 round even.
Next Round. Decrease 4 sts at intervals. Work 1 round even.
Next Round. * Decrease in next 2 sts, s c in next st, repeat from * all around, sl st in next st, cut yarn leaving a length for sewing. Sew opening closed.

BEADING: 
Attach yarn on opposite side of starting ch, ch 3, skip 1 st, s d c in next st, * ch 1, skip 1 st, s d c in next st, repeat from * all around, ch 1, join.
Next Round. Ch 1, working in s c work 2 s c in 3 meshes evenly spaced and 3 s c in all other meshes (42 s c), join, turn.
Next Round. Ch 5, skip 2 s c, s c in next s c, * ch 2, skip 2 s c, d c in next s c, ch 2, skip 2 s c, repeat from * all around, ch 2, join, cut yarn, turn.
Work next 5 rounds same as last 5 rounds of Booties. Lace ribbon through beading. Work other mitten in same manner.
